  • What is pulmonary and systemic circulation? What are there pathways?
  • How does coronary circulation supply the heart (do NOT know the names of the arteries and veins).
  • What are the steps of cardiac conduction?
  • What causees the lubb sound? The dupp sound?
  • What is the formula for cardiac output? How is it affected by exercise?
  • What 3 factors affect the stroke volume?
  • How is the heart rate controlled?

Day 4

Read ENTIRE article “Blowing a Gasket” (http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1009656-1,00.html). Write a 1/2 page with summary explaining the info presented AND 1/2 page response of what you thought about it -- new questions, how it affects you or your family, things that surprised you, etc. (you MUST double side if more than 1 page total).

Finish any questions from the dissection that you did not complete during class. I want accurracy of information, so use your text or the internet if needed and cite your sources. Feel free to use bullet point responses, but make sure I can read them!

Day 5

Read pages 724 - 733 and 737 - 739.

  • Know the differences between the layers (tunicas) and the functions of arteries, arterioles, capillaries, venuoles, and veins.
  • Where is the blood distributed at rest?
  • What is blood pressure? what do the numbers represent?
  • what affects resistance?
  • How is blood returned to the heart? What are the skeletal muscle and respiratory pumps?

Don’t forget to bring text to class

Do research and write your job shadow proposal following the guidelines on step #1 of the Job Shadow Handout.

Debrief dissection & prepare for field trip

Mentally prepare for the field trip. Be certain to talk to your E and F block teachers. Look at the interesting books I put on reserve in the library. Don't be late for the bus! Bring food, a book, music in case you need to step away.

Day X3 Wednesday 3/24

Field Trip: UCSF Cadaver Lab

Write a response to the field trip - what was surprising? what was particularly interesting? anything difficult to handle? how did you feel before, during and after? did anything come up for you when you were talking about it later? (~ 20-30 minutes & 1 page)

Check out the books on display in the library. There's an amazing photography book on dissecting!
